In practical terms a reflective account should be a brief, written description of an experience and the actions taken, including some analysis of what went well and what did not go so well and what has been learnt for future improvements. It should include how any service users have benefited as a result.
The GPhC has decided that the reflective account will demonstrate how one or more of the professional standards have been met. They have chosen three standards for this first (2019) year:
- Standard 3 - pharmacy professionals must communicate effectively
- Standard 6 - pharmacy professionals must behave professionally
- Standard 9 - pharmacy professionals must demonstrate leadership
These standards have been chosen as the GPhC thinks it is important to assure members of the public that their trust in pharmacists and pharmacy technicians is well placed.
The standards relate well to one another and although only one standard needs to be reflected on the others could be included in an account if wished.
The following page will look at the above 3 GPhC standards, which are part of GPhC Standards for Pharmacy Professionals document1. This will help you understand the requirements to meet the standard you have chosen for your reflective account.
