Why is the POCT market growing
Historically rapid tests were mostly used in ER to enable the healthcare teams to make decisions about patients in life-or-death situations.
During the COVID pandemic, due to the urgency of isolating infected the development of the rapid COVID-19 antigenic test, which provided instant results, the possibility of instant monitoring, diagnosis and decision making across other therapy areas, within other health care setting was accelerated. Removing the need to wait for a third party to collect sample, to then send it to a lab for testing and waiting for the results.
Also enabling the empowerment of patients to take more responsibility for their own health – by extending the offering of the rapid tests, which suggests that the demand for home testing is likely to increase.
A recent global health and wellness study by Nielsen Nielsen Wellbeing found that 48% of people regularly make proactive health and wellness choices. This shows that they want to monitor and protect their health, rather than waiting until illness forces them to take action .
As rapid tests develop and become more sophisticated in speed, quality and connected to wider health and artificial intelligence features, it is envision that they will become part of the routine monitoring and diagnostic process.
