Male pattern baldness is a common type of hair loss that causes men to lose hair with a classic pattern - thinning out above both temples and receding into an M-shaped hairline.
It is an inherited condition, caused by an increased sensitivity to the effects of the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT)
Increased sensitivity to DHT shortens the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle from 2-7 years to just weeks or months.
Hair cannot grow as long as before
Follicles become miniaturised, progressively producing fewer and finer hairs.
The anagen phase becomes so short, that new hairs don’t show through the surface of scalp and telogen hair growth is only weakly anchored to the scalp, making it easier to fall out.
