The Advisory Committee on Malaria Prevention (ACMP) recommends Deet based repellents with concentration over 20%
- Suitable for > 2months of age
- No evidence of higher risk using 50% DEET
- 50% has the longest duration of action
Advice:
- Apply to exposed skin only
- Apply DEET after sun cream
- As may reduce sun cream SPF use higher SPF
- Avoid contact with plastics
If DEET is not suitable, alternative repellents are recommended - icaridin (picaridin), lemon eucalyptus (p-methane 3,8 diol), IR3535, but few are as effective.
Oil of citronella is NOT RECOMMENDED by ACMP.
Other Preventative Measures
