If we put together everything we have covered in this module you should have some very
clear tips for how to build a strong team.
- Set your vision – the vision set will guide you and your teams. It will create a desire to grow and improve.
- Get to know individuals in your team – if you understand their motivation, goals and personalities you will be in a better position to support them.
- Set clear roles and expectations.
- Delegate – don’t try to do everything yourself. Use the time management matrix to identify what you can delegate. Remember the benefits to you and the rest of the team if you delegate effectively.
- Communicate – regular communication will ensure everyone is aware of what is happening, their role and what you expect from them. It also prevents people filling in the gaps.
- Provide feedback remember feedback can be motivational as well as developmental. Use the BOOST method to ensure you give feedback correctly and remember feedback should be 2 ways.
- Deal with conflict – don’t bury your head in the sand, it won’t go away. Conflict often becomes a bigger task to deal with because what can seem like minor niggles are not dealt with then they arise and feedback on conduct.
