The Equality Act 2010 was brought in to address unfair treatment and achieve equal opportunities in the workplace and in society.
The Equality Act 2010 replaced most of the previous anti-discrimination laws with one single Act to make it simpler and consistent. This made it easier to understand and easier to comply with. It also helped to strengthen protection in some areas.
The Equality Act aims to reduce unfair treatment:
- In the workplace
- When providing goods, facilities and services
- When exercising public functions
- In the disposal and management of premises
- In education
- By associations (such as private clubs)
