The remainder of this module is going to highlight some of the more common sexually transmitted infections. Any patient presenting with STI symptoms or seeking advice should be referred the pharmacist as they may need to be referred on for diagnosis and treatment.

Sexually transmitted infections are passed between people through unprotected sex or genital contact. Not all STIs show symptoms therefore a patient who suspects that they may be at risk should be tested whether they have symptoms or not.

On the following pages we will take a look at the most common STIs, their symptoms and their treatments.
