When remembering the following red flag symptoms of sepsis in adults, just think of SEPSIS:

Symptoms in Children

Red flag symptoms to look out for in children are:

  • They are breathing very fast
  • Has a 'fit' or convulsion
  • Looks mottled, bluish or pale
  • Has a rash that doesn't go away when you press it
  • Is very lethargic or difficult to wake
  • Feels abnormally cold to touch

Symptoms for children under the age of 5

Red flag symptoms to look out for in the child if they are not feeding, vomiting repeatedly or hasn't got a wet nappy or passed urine for more than 12 hours.

If any of the red flag symptoms are present, you must refer to the pharmacist. Ask yourself Could it be Sepsis?€
