If a parent has a particular concern they should be advised to seek advice from the pharmacist. In some areas of the UK NHS bedwetting clinics are held which can help assess and recommend the best action for a parent to take.

If the child has any of the following symptoms relating to bedwetting they should be referred to the pharmacist:

  • Still wetting the bed above the age of ten years.
  • Wetting themselves during the day (urinary incontinence).
  • A high temperature (38°C or above.
  • A frequent need to urinate or are not urinating frequently (fewer than four times per day).
  • A dribbling of urine, either constantly or just after urination.
  • Pain when urinating or a very small or narrow stream of urine.
  • Blood in their urine.
  • Thirsty all the time.
  • Any additional medical problems.
  • Cloudy or foul smelling urine
