Cold sores are clusters of small blisters that develop on the lips or around the mouth. They are caused by the herpes simplex virus.
When a person first becomes infected with the herpes simplex virus they will not usually display any symptoms but later, outbreaks of blisters will occur following one or more trigger factor.
The cold sore will usually start with a tingling, itching or burning around the mouth, nose or lips. Small fluid filled sores will develop around the mouth usually on the lower lip.
Most cold sores disappear without treatment within 7-10 days but due to their unsightliness many customers will seek treatments to speed up the healing process. Ensure you know what range of products your pharmacy stocks so that you can recommend products to customers.
