module menu icon Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

SAD is a form of depression which is experienced during a particular time or season of the year. SAD impacts a person’s day to day life, mood, concentration, sleep and many other symptoms that the Mind (mental health charity) detail here. There are a few self- help tips that Mind can suggest such as:

  • Exercise and eat well – it can be just as effective as medication.
  • Try and avoid stress as this can exacerbate or even trigger depression.
  • Make the most of the natural light – when possible, try and get outside during daylight hours. If the sun is shining, it will boost a person’s serotonin level and improve the mood.
  • Utilise a light box to increase light exposure – it can help lift a person’s mood and help them feel awake and alert.
  • Signpost to herbal therapies which you may stock in your pharmacy
