Flu occurs every year, usually during the winter season, sometimes called ‘seasonal flu’. Flu is a highly infectious disease caused by influenza viruses that infect the windpipe and the lungs. People tend to find that their symptoms will develop very quickly as the flu is caused by viruses and not bacteria. Antibiotics will not relieve the symptoms of flu but the best way to prevent the flu is by getting the flu vaccination.

  • Take a look at our Flu Champions module
  • Consider promoting the flu vaccination (privately or NHS but check eligibility), especially to those at risk as it is the best way to prevent flu. For advice and guidance please see our pages on NumarkNet
