Sore throats are common in the winter and usually resolve by itself in a week.
OTC remedies such as paracetamol, ibuprofen can help to ease the symptoms.
Self-help tips you could advise:
- Gargle with warm, salty water (not for children)
- Drink plenty of water
- Eat cool or soft foods
- Suck ice cubes, ice lollies or hard boiled sweets – not suitable for children
- Rest
- Avoid smoking
