Whether it is diarrhoea or constipation, it will usually leave you feeling out of sync with stomach pains and cramps when overindulging on food.
Constipation is caused by not being able to pass stools regularly or being able to completely empty the bowel. During Christmas, overeating, not getting enough fluids, fibre and physical activity can lead to constipation, therefore recommending a laxative may help but there are some self- help tips you could use during your conversations as below.

- Increase fibre intake – eat more fruit and veg and foods with high fibre e.g brown bread, rice etc
- Drink more fluids and avoid alcohol
- Increase physical activity – try taking a walk or yoga
Diarrhoea occurs when there is a need to pass stools more frequently and can be a result of a stomach bug. It is best to advise customers to avoid dairy products, coffee and alcohol for at least 24 hours as these can set off diarrhoea. Whilst OTC medication such as loperamide is recommended, you can also suggest taking rehydration sachets as this will help restore the natural salts lost.
