module menu icon About Prostate Cancer

Within the prostate, there are cells which normally get replaced when they become damaged or are no longer able to work. These cells follow a cycle of programmed cell death and replacement.

When the cancer develops in the prostate, the cells stop following the programmed cycle and begin to grow in an uncontrolled way. In this case, the cells don’t die but they start to divide uncontrollably and eventually produce a lump called a tumour.
