Male pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss that starts to affect men in their late twenties to early thirties – although some men may experience this even earlier.
It is hereditary so runs in the family with the strongest influence being on the mother’s side.
It is a gradual process which usually involves the appearance of a bald spot on the crown of the scalp, followed by hair thinning at the temples. Others may experience their hairlines receding (thinning) to form an ‘M’ shape. In some men, the hairline will continue to recede until all of the hair is gone. This type of hair loss doesn’t affect the side or the back of the head.
