There are a number of self care tips which patients can take should they be bitten:-

  • Remove the sting
  • Wash the area with water and soap
  • Apply a cold compress for 10 minutes to reduce swelling
  • Raise the affected area to reduce swelling
  • Avoid the urge to itch

If a bites becomes infected or the bites doesn't improve then you should seek advice from the pharmacist.

Patients can also take:

  • Ibuprofen or paracetamol to reduce any pain
  • Use antihistamines or calamine to reduce swelling and redness
  • Use antihistamines or hydrocortisone to relieve any itching
