There are many different products for head lice on the market and it can be confusing for parents and difficult for them to choose. You can help by understanding the differences between the various products and help customers choose one that suits their needs.

Make yourself familiar with the products stocked in your pharmacy, making sure you read the manufacturer's instructions and are comfortable with how they should be used.

You can also provide the following advice to patients:-

  • Regularly comb the hair to detect head lice infestations, weekly is recommended
  • Long hair should be tied up when their is an outbreak at school or nursery
  • Avoid using treatment to prevent head lice as they can irritate the scalp and it can lead to the lice developing resistance to the insecticide
