You need to be aware of the following red flag symptoms. If a patient presents with any of the below they should be referred to the pharmacist:-
- If the patient has tried OTC medications and the infestation is still present.
- Patients, parents and carers must be advised to not smoke around treated hair and avoid contact with open flames or sources of ignition. Some head lice products are flammable and there have been reports of serious burns associated with use of these products.
