Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the protective membrane which covers the white of the eye and inside the eyelid (conjunctiva).

Conjunctivitis can be caused by viral or bacterial infections or allergies.

Conjunctivitis can be contagious, especially if it is caused by a viral or bacterial infection. It usually affects both eyes and can also be called pink eye or red eye.

In most cases, conjunctivitis gets better within two weeks.

Patients with conjunctivitis will experience:-

  • Bloodshot eyes
  • Burning or gritty sensation
  • Pus that sticks to eyelashes
  • Itchy eyes
  • Watery eyes
