There a number of products that can help to relieve the symptoms of conjunctivitis.

  • You can recommend eye drops or ointments that contain Chloramphenicol, which can be used every two hours for the first couple of days, and four hourly thereafter. 
  • Propamidine isethionate which contains an antibacterial, trypanocidal and fungicidal activity. These drops can be applied four times a day.

There are also a number of self-care tips you can give:-

  • Use clean cotton wool and cooled, boiled water to gently rub the eye lashes and clean the pus
  • Hold a cold flannel on your eyes for a few minutes to cool them down
  • Wash hands regularly to prevent spreading
  • Wash pillows, flannels and towels in a hot wash
  • Don't wear contact lenses
  • Avoid rubbing the eyes where possible
