Colic is a common problem that affects babies. It isn't not known what exactly causes colic but it is thought that it may be due to babies finding it harder to digest food.
All babies cry but colic is defined by crying for more than 3 hours a day, 3 days a week for at least 1 week. They may cry more in the afternoon and evening.
You may also notice that babies are harder to soothe/settle, they clench their fists and go red in the face. You may also see them bring their knees up to their tummy or arch their back. Babies may also experience tummy rumbles or be windy.
Colic can start when a baby is just a few weeks old up to around 6 months old.
