Numark has published 12 key principles aimed at underpinning future models of pharmacy practice.

Designed to integrate community pharmacy more deeply into primary care, they emphasise a more significant role for the sector in clinical service delivery, driven by technological advancements and data utilisation, according to the independent group.

The framework provides a roadmap for pharmacies to expand their services, improve patient outcomes and address rising healthcare demands as an integral part of a broader healthcare ecosystem, says Numark.

However, it is “imperative” that pharmacies are fairly funded and financially viable, with businesses having the “confidence to invest in delivering safe, high-quality services”. 

The company intends to use the principles to engage and influence its members, chief pharmaceutical officers and the four national negotiating bodies. 

Chairman Harry McQuillan said: “Numark’s principles are designed to stimulate debate and assist the community sector to look to the future, fully accepting that a stable funding base is essential to do so.”
