Worcestershire-based pharmacy group Knights Pharmacy has bought two sites in Newport from the Evans Pharmacy group, taking its total store footprint to 49.
Knights Pharmacy, which has a presence across England and Wales, acquired the South Wales pharmacies – one in Abercarn and another in Cwmcam – with the help of financing provided by HSBC UK.
According to HSBC, the Abercarn site dispenses 12,000 items a month and the Cwmcam site around 5,000 items. The company – which owned 18 pharmacies in 2021 – reportedly plans to offer prescribing services from both locations and to install a second ‘treatment room’ in the Abercarn branch.
Knights Pharmacy managing director Anand Sodha said: “We’ve successfully built our presence across the West Midlands and South Wales over the past number of years.
“Our plan for these two additional sites, and for the rest of our locations, is to focus on continually bettering our services. By offering vital treatment for minor ailments, we can help to alleviate the pressure on the NHS and ensure our customers receive the care they need.”
HSBC’s Partho Bose commented: “Knights Pharmacy’s commitment to community health and its vision for growth aligns with our goal of backing ambitious businesses. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of these acquisitions will have on local communities in south Wales.”
