Tariff Tips
Is my patient entitled to free NHS prescriptions?
Q: Information Services have recently received several queries relating to patients being fined for incorrectly filling in the back of their prescription; and pharmacy teams asking for details of the official guidance?
A: All pharmacies should have recently received their penalty charges booklet, A3 poster for patients and also a booklet for the pharmacy staff titled ‘Help your patients avoid penalty charges’.
The benefits section can cause some confusion when determining whether patients qualify for exemption or not. The following tables may be of help to clarify the situation.
If you have any questions about this particular tip or any other drug tariff query you can call Information Services on 0800 783 5709.
