Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)

Form: Mounjaro / Tirzepatide is a subcutaneous injection in a prefilled pen available in 6 strengths 2.5mg. 5mg. 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg. and 15mg

Mode of action:

  • Tirzapetide is a long-acting dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist.
  • In addition, both GIP and GLP-1 receptors are expressed in the areas of the brain important to appetite regulation and calorie intake.
  • It affects areas of the brain that control homeostatic as well as hedonistic regulation of food intake.
  • Tirzepatide lowers body weight and body fat mass. The mechanisms associated with body weight and body fat mass reduction involve decreased food intake through the regulation of appetite and modulation of fat utilization. Clinical studies show that Tirzepatide reduces appetite by increasing feelings of satiety (fullness) and decreasing feelings of hunger and cravings. This in turn reduces energy intake.

Dose: The starting dose of Tirzepatide is 2.5mg once weekly. After 4 weeks, the dose should be increased to 5mg once weekly. If needed, dose increases can be made in 2.5mg increments after a minimum of 4 weeks on the current dose. The recommended maintenance doses are 5, 10, and 15mg. The maximum dose is 15mg once weekly.

Side effects include: Nausea, Diarrhoea, Decreased appetite, Vomiting, Constipation, Indigestion, and Stomach Pain.
