The remainder of this module will focus on the use of unlicensed medicinal products – Specials.
Specials are defined in the Drug Tariff as:
"Unlicensed medicinal products manufactured in the UK for human use which has been specially prepared to meet a prescription ordered for individual patients without the need for the manufacturer to hold a marketing authorisation for the medicinal product concerned."
In simpler terms, an unlicensed medicine that has been specially manufactured to meet an individual patient's clinical need.
