Vaccination history
Knowledge of the vaccinations that a patient has had previously will allow confirmation of expected immunity or the need for repeat vaccination.
It will also give an indication of the likelihood of the patient exhibiting an allergic reaction to subsequent vaccinations.
When considering vaccinations that may be necessary for travel, it is advisable to also ensure that the patient is up to date with their childhood vaccination schedule.
Travel history
Patients who have travelled previously are generally less likely to become ill whilst abroad. They are more likely to be organised and prepared, to have been more extensively immunised and have a greater awareness of the possible risks relating to food, water, insect bites, sun exposure or accidents along with appropriate actions to minimise these risks. Conversely, a first time traveller may be unaware of or unprepared for the potential risks.
