Motor Vehicle Accidents

No matter how cautious you are, motor vehicle accidents will happen – you hear it all over the news. Did you know 4.5 million British adults put themselves at risk by hiring mopeds and quad bikes abroad causing injuries, accidents and even death. The Association of British Travel Agents ( ABTA ) advice is, do not hire a moped or quad bike if you have never ridden it as knowledge of the local roads and local highway code is pretty non-existent! Remember the highway code in their country will be different from ours.

One thing that often gets forgotten is when travelling via vehicle be it car, minibus, coach etc is always wear seatbelts where possible.

Irrelevant if it is your fault or not if you are ,unfortunately, involved in an accident abroad make sure the police are called and that you get a copy of the police report. If you don't understand what you're being told, ask for an interpreter. If possible: make notes about what happened as the more information that can be given to the insurance company(s) the better. Also, remember that your travel insurance may not cover you for bikes, quad bikes etc and if you are using a hire car separate insurance will be necessary.
