The Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) is a voluntary annual reward and incentive programme for all GP surgeries in England.

QOF is made up of three main components, known as domains; these are Clinical; Public Health and Public Health – Additional Services. Each domain consists of a set of achievement measures, known as indicators, against which practices score points according to their level of achievement.

How can it be used?
By reviewing the QOF database for your local GP practices you may identify an area where the practice is currently not meeting their target. You may then be able to tailor your service to this area and support the practice in achieving these QOF points.

Example: if your local GP practice is not currently meeting their target for the percentage of patients with asthma, on the register, who have had an asthma review in the preceding 12 months that includes an assessment of asthma control this could be an opportunity to discuss running an asthma review service within the pharmacy. You could include an ACT score and inhaler technique check and share the results with the surgery for their QOF points.

Action:

Click here to search for your local practice. Look at areas where they are currently not meeting the QOF points. Think about any services you currently provide or could provide that would support these areas. By linking some of your services to QOF you may also be able to increase the local practices engagement with the service or even set up new services with their support.
