The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) looks at the current and future health and care needs of the local population. It is used to inform and guide the planning and commissioning of health, well-being and social care services within the local authority area.
How can it be used?
The JSNA is not pharmacy specific but gives an overview of other social factors that impact on people’s health and wellbeing, such as housing, poverty and employment. Whilst it may not identify areas or gaps in services it may be useful as an evidence base particularly if you are looking to put together a business case for a service. It may also provide you with more detail about the health of the local population which could help with targeting services.
Action:
Search for your local JSNA. These can be accessed from the local authority website. It can be a very large document so you may only need to view the summary page to give a general overview.
