The Ovulation Phase
This phase is when the mature egg is released and a women can become pregnant.
If you have regular 28-day menstrual cycles, the ovulation stages of the menstrual cycle usually occur on day 14.
The surge in oestrogen during the follicular phase triggers a spike the luteinising hormone.
- LH causes the mature follicle to rupture and release an egg which will then travel down the fallopian tube.
- Once released the egg has a window of approx. 24hrs to be fertilised before it degenerates and is reabsorbed by the body.
