How will FMD affect split packs? - Pharmacy contractors will still be able to split packs of medicines when dispensing prescriptions. Pharmacy teams will need to visually check the ATD and decommission the medicine before the pack is first opened. The remainder of the medicine pack can be dispensed without further checking at a future point. Pharmacy teams are encouraged to introduce processes that will enable them to distinguish split packs of medicines that have been decommissioned from medicines with damaged packaging.

How will I deal with liquids? - Liquid medicines should be decommissioned when the anti-tamper device is broken, i.e. when the bottle is first opened. This will apply to all liquids for example, antibiotic suspensions requiring reconstitution and larger bottles of liquid medicine used to satisfy multiple prescriptions, for example methadone oral solution.
