Many adults, both men and women, may never have had a HPV vaccine. These adults could still benefit from
HPV vaccination now because:
• HPV infection can be acquired in adulthood.5-7
• A previous HPV infection may not provide protection against future HPV infections8-12
- Infection with the same HPV type can occur again8-11
- Infection with one HPV type does not protect against infection with other HPV types10,12
For most people, HPV infection clears on its own. But for those infected with high-risk types who don’t clear the virus, it may cause certain cancers and diseases later in life.4
