Delegating a Short/Simple Task

If you only want to delegate a small task with very few instructions, then the 10 step model is too lengthy. You could use the PAT model instead to ensure you get the required outcome.

  1. Purpose - This is what you are asking them to do and why they need to do the task. E.g "Hi Sue, We need to restock the shelves with these new products, we have some great offers on them for our customers and i need your help to do it."
  2. Actions - This is what they actually need to do and we can check their understanding of the task.  You could be very descriptive at this stage or if you are giving them more autonomy you can be very brief. E.g " We have a planogram of where the products need to be place, please can you work through the planogram and put all the products out with the correct POS material and prices?"
  3. Time frame - This is information on when it needs to be done by. You need to be specific of the time and date and make it more like a question so they confirm back to you that it will be done by then. E.g "Could you get this done by 1pm today please?"
