The role of the Data Protection officer (DPO)

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) is a designated role under GDPR and is required by all organisations that carry out large scale processing of special categories of data – this would include health data.

Although no formal training is required for the role, they would be expected to have a good knowledge of data protection laws.

Every community pharmacy will need to have their own DPO.

More information on the role of the DPO can be found  on the Information Commissioners Offcie ( ICO ) website.

ACTION: Find out who will be your DPO (if relevant) and make a note of their name and contact details
