The most important piece of advice you can give to patients is that they should be protecting themselves against STIs as well preventing pregnancy by using condoms.

If patients are seeking advice on STIs and contraception please ensure you refer them to a pharmacist. This doesn't mean you can't discuss the issues yourself with the patient but it does mean that the pharmacists must be made aware of the circumstances and will ensure any advice given or action taken is appropriate.

Now you have completed this module you will have more information about the types of contraception and the types of STIs that can be contracted and you should feel more confident on where to signpost patients for services you don't provide within the pharmacy.
