Healthy teeth should not be sensitive to hot or cold, but when enamel is worn away or gums recede then the dentine and nerves can become exposed.

When the nerve ending comes in to contact with hot or cold food and drink they become sensitive and can cause a sharp pain in the tooth.

As well as enamel wear and receding gums sensitive teeth can be caused by the excessive use of an abrasive toothbrush.

Customers who suffer from sensitive teeth should be advised to use a soft bristled toothbrush; fluoride toothpaste specifically designed for sensitive teeth and reduce their consumption of acidic and sugary foods.
