Dry eye syndrome is a condition caused by a problem with tear production where the eye either doesn’t produce enough tears, the tears are not of the right quality or composition or the tears are not spread across the eye surface correctly. This disturbance causes the eye to dry out and become irritated and inflamed.

Dry eye syndrome is a condition that affects one in five adults in the UK and more than half of all soft contact lens wearers. The condition becomes more common as people age, approximately 15 -33 per cent of customers aged over 65 years old suffer dry eye symptoms  Also 50 per cent more women suffer symptoms than men.
