There is evidence to support that a diet high in fatty acids such as Omega-3 and Omega-6 can help to improve symptoms, reduce inflammation and improve the stability of the tear film. Omega-3 and 6 are essential fatty acids that we cannot produce naturally but are important to maintain healthy cells, brain function and reduce inflammation.

Omega-3 is naturally found in oily fish (salmon, mackerel, tuna), walnuts and flaxseed oil.

Omega-6 is naturally found in poultry, nuts, wholegrain cereals, most vegetable oils and evening primrose oil.

The NHS recommends that we should eat two portions of fish per week, of which one should be oily.

The UK diet is often deficient in Omega-3 but surplus in Omega-6. Customers who don't get the recommended daily intake from their diet can be recommended generic dietary supplements which are an oral product specific for the relief of dry eye symptoms.
