The women's intimate health category in the UK is estimated to be worth 94 million with thrush products accounting for 50% of the total sum (source: Nielsen 27th February 2016).

It is important to be able to differentiate between the symptoms of both conditions, which will enable you to ask appropriate questions during patient counselling. As a result you will be able to educate your customers on the differences and ensure they are managing their symptoms correctly and purchasing the most appropriate over the counter treatment.

Objectives

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • Recognise the symptoms of thrush and bacterial vaginosis.
  • Describe the main causes of both conditions.
  • Explain the types of treatment available for both conditions and which product is most appropriate for the customer's symptoms.
  • Educate customers on the differences between the two conditions and therefore how to differentiate between them.
