module menu icon What is Cholesterol?

Everybody needs cholesterol in their body. It is fatty substance which is found in the blood known as a lipid. Cholesterol is produced primarily by the liver and is needed to help the body function. Blood flows freely through your vessels (arteries and veins) but when you have high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), it can build up, causing restricted blood flow to the brain and heart and may lead to a heart attack or stroke.
