January 1st marks the start of a fresh new year and millions of people will be looking to make a positive change. Some recurring themes of New Year resolutions include:

  • “I want to focus on improving my health and fitness goals this year”
  • “I want to quit smoking/drink less alcohol”
  • “I want to get organised for this year and save more money”
  • “This year, I want to spend more time with my family and friends”
  • “I want to learn a new skill in my personal/professional life”

Many resolutions fail because it is not the right resolution for that person, some reasons include:

  • The resolution is too vague
  • There is no accountability
  • There is no realistic plan to achieve the resolution
  • The resolution is based on what somebody else is telling them to change
  • Peer pressure
