Flu can affect anyone, at any age, even healthy people! There are some groups of people that will be at a higher risk of developing flu complications which include:

  • Pregnant women
  • Those who have a long term condition such as:
    • Heart problem
    • A kidney disease
    • Liver disease
    • Diabetes
    • A chest complaint or breathing difficulties including bronchitis, emphysema or severe asthma
    • People with a weakened immune system due to disease or treatment (such as cancer treatment on steroid medication)
    • Had a stroke
    • Has a neurological condition e.g. multiple sclerosis (MS), cerebral palsy or learning disability
    • A problem with the spleen e.g. sickle cell disease or have had the spleen removed
    • Is seriously overweight and has a BMI 40 or above

This list isn’t definitive as having the flu may lead to serious consequences if the customer has any underlying illnesses.
