Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the mucous membrane known as the conjunctiva that lines the white of the eye and inside the eyelid; it is sometimes referred to as 'red eye'. Conjunctivitis is an eye condition which can be uncomfortable and irritating. There are two main types; infective and allergic, with differing causes and recommended treatments.
Objectives
The objectives of this module are to enable you to:
- Understand the different causes of conjunctivitis.
- Recognise specific symptoms for all types of conjunctivitis.
- Provide advice on suitable treatments available and self help advice or appropriate referral where necessary.
