module menu icon Treating Allergies

The most effective treatment is trying to avoid all contact with the allergen but in some cases this is not practical.

Each allergy will have specific treatments but most of them will fall in to one of the following categories:

  • Antihistamines to block the production of histamine during a reaction.
  • Steroid nasal sprays to reduce inflammation.
  • Eye drops to reduce itchiness and redness.
  • Decongestants which help to relieve the nasal congestion.
  • Leukotriene are found in prescription medicines for asthma.
  • Immunotherapy also known as hypo sensitisation gradually introduces more and more of the allergen into the body to reduce the sensitivity e.g. peanut allergy
