Mental health problems can affect the way you think, feel and behave. They affect around one in four people in the UK and range from common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety to more rare issues such as bipolar disorder. A mental health problem can feel just as bad, or worse, as any other physical illness - you just can't see it.
There are many different approached to how mental health problems should be diagnosed, what causes them and which treatments are most effective. There is still a lot of stigma and discrimination towards people with mental health problems and misunderstanding around what it means.
In pharmacy the main way you can assist patients is by recognising any signs and symptoms and understanding how you can support customers.Â
