There are now courses available that teach Mental Health First Aid. It's primary aim is to teach people how to help people with mental health conditions and gives information on the appropriate steps to taken when someone is in crisis.

If you have an emergency situation and someone is at risk of harm, it is a good idea to stay with them and follow one of the below steps:-
- Ring their GP or out of house service for an emergency appointment
- Contact their Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) if they have one
- Encourage them to talk to Samaritans
- Go to their nearest A&E department
- Call 999 or NHS Direct on 111
- Contact the local crisis team who may be able to arrange a home visit.
If you do have urgent concerns about someones social circumstances it may be appropriate to contact your local social services to ensure they are made aware of the situation. Please seek advise from your pharmacist if you have concerns.
