To help relieve and soothe strains and sprains patients can use a number of methods.

RICE therapy can help to bring down swelling and supporting the injury:-

R - Rest - stop any exercise and avoid putting weight on the injury

I - Ice - apply an ice pack to the injury for up to 20 minutes every 2 to 3 hours

C - Compression - wrap a bandage around the injury to support it

E - Elevate - keep it raised on a pillow as much as possible

Patients may wish to take painkillers such as paracetamol to help relieve and pain. Patients can also use topical pain relief to target the point of pain directly.
