You need to be aware of the following red flag symptoms. If a patient presents with any of the below they should be referred to the pharmacist:-
- A sprain or strain that isn't getting any better after treating it themselves
- Pain or swelling is getting worse
- If the patient has a very high temperature or feels hot or shivery
- If there was a cracking sound when the injury happened
- If the injured body part has changed shape
- If the injury is numb, discoloured or cold to touch
